In this guide we will deal with tips and
strategies for Texas Hold'em tournaments. Of
course that there are people can just start
playing, but for those who aren't very good in
Texas Hold'em, is invited to read this guide to
get in the business faster. It's recommended to
remember this guide so you can increase your
winning chances. In this guide 10 tips for
succeeding in Texas Hold'em tournaments so
actually, if you know these tips, you will have
a slight advantage on your opponents.
Don't play all your hands: the
recommended tip is of course in every poker game
and especially in tournaments. If you have a bad
starting hand, there is a button called Fold –
use it. In the beginning of the game it's good
to play only with strong hands, i.e.
Combinations like Ace/King/Queen/Jack and also
combinations with 2 high cards like Ace/King,
Ace/Queen, Ace/Jack, King/Queen. If you reached
the middle of the tournaments you can compromise
on lower combinations like pair of 9,
Queen/Jack, Ace with any other card. Keep on the
pot according to your cards even if you folded
with a hand like 4/8, and after you folded you
saw that 4/8 came on the table (i.e. You had two
pairs) – you still made the right decision.
If you play – play tough: if you got a
strong starting hand, raise the bet if there was
a big raise before you, in this case reading the
hand is enough. If you have a chance to raise
first- go for it, why? Because you also want to
earn a respected amount, and also to get rid of
with weak hands that can surprise. Don't let
others see your hand.
High pair? Raise: if you are in a good
situation in the tournament and you got a high
pair, raise the bet. If there are players that
already read you, the pot might reached a
respected amount even without opening the cards.
In a situation of pair of Aces/Kinds/Queens its
worth for you to make a big raise to encourage
other players to fold, even if they have good
cards, it's more likely that your hand is
stronger, and then you will take the pot also if
they haven't folded.
Watch out from raises and reraises: if
someone raises before you or after you raised,
play only if you expect a higher hand. Always
remember that also a strong hand is vulnerable,
and always there can be someone with a stronger
hand than yours – try to avoid unnecessary
conflicts, unless you are leading them. If you
do have a really strong hand and you are leading
the conflict – play with all of the money you
got. It's likely that you will win but remember
when all your money is at the pot, it will be
hard for your opponents to give up on him,
therefore do it only with a strong hand. It's
also recommended at the end of the conflict to
raise again before opening the cards to scare
your opponent.
The cards on the table are good for you? Bet
big! Although it sounds obvious to you, but
you should do this all the time. If you have a
high Pair, three of a kind or a Flush, go on a
big bet (but check before if the cards on the
table create a Flush/Straight in an easy way).
Sometimes you should play slow also if you have
a strong hand, for not causing other players to
fold quickly, so if someone gets a good hand but
yours is better – there will be more money in
the pot.
The art of bluffing: a bluff works in a
good way when the bluff looks naturally and
convincing. For example if you are on your way
to a straight but you missed it, sometimes you
should bluff like you got the card you wanted,
and the cards on the table will make your bluff
more convincing.
Watch out for your chips: Always know how many chips you have and play
according to that. For example if you have only
1000 chips and the minimum bets are 400/800, you
will need to catch a stand with less good cards
or wait until you will have to enter the minimum
bet, and then put all in, no matter the cards.
Always keep money to raise instead reaching a
situation where you will have to put all your
money and then they will reraise on you. Of
course that if you have more money than the
other players, don't be afraid to enter with
lots of money and then put them in unpleasant
situations.
The more the game gets long, the minimum bet
gets higher: This is also obvious, but it's important to
remember it. The more the starting bets are
higher – they get more important. Sometimes you
should protect your starting amount by a
significant raise, even if you don't have the
best hand in the world its better not to lose
the starting bet.
Be brave also when you fold: When you will reach tough situations that it
will be difficult to decide whether to continue
or to fold, of course that the decision won't be
easy but you always need bravery. If your hand
is good and you are confident of yourself – go
for it also against an aggressive player that
all the time raises, it doesn't say that he has
a better hand than yours and you should fold. Of
course you will need to take a certain risk
here.
Sometimes its better that other people do the
dirty job: Although you must be brave, the goal of the
tournament is to stay as long as you can and
finish as high as possible. If two players go
head to head on their money, you should always
consider folding and let one of them lose, this
way you will be one place higher from winning
the tournament ;).
